Op Ed: Access to mental healthcare saves lives

In today’s MetroWest Daily News, an op ed piece written by Scott Bock (President & CEO of Riverside Community Care) and Vic DiGravio (President & CEO of the Association for Behavioral Healthcare): Access to mental healthcare saves lives.

The shooting in Newtown is so vivid and so horrible that it is almost beyond comprehension. Like similar tragic events that came before this, there is a search underway for why it happened and how to prevent future horrors of this kind. Perhaps the young ages of the victims, the valor of the teachers, and the holiday season will force change. While news stations lay out the way forward with experts and politicians grapple with what to do about guns, we are witnessing the quiet, slow, loss of ground in mental health services that we have counted on for decades.
