Riverside Employee Conducts Trainings in Nepal

Dr. Ilana Cohen, our Program Director for Families With Voices at The Guidance Center, recently returned from a trip to Nepal where she was invited to conduct a training for professionals focusing on working with traumatized children. She worked with IsraAid (Israel’s largest humanitarian aid organization), which provided medical help, psychological first aid, food and shelter in the aftermath of the tremendous earthquake that occurred in Nepal in 2015. IsraAid also works to train local professionals to help the affected people in the years following a disaster.

Ilana taught several trainings for clinicians working with traumatized children, sex trafficked children, and children who live on the street.  She also chaired a conversation with professionals about the status of abused children in Nepal and taught at a local college.

Ilana experienced groups who welcomed the training, were motivated to learn and eager to use the trauma informed interventions that were presented.  She said she was “thrilled to teach self-care to many professionals who have neglected their own self-care and [was] very happy to bring some of what [she] has learned over the years at the Children With Voices Program to this faraway place.”

We’re proud that Riverside’s expertise is being sought internationally and kudos to Ilana for sharing her knowledge in Nepal.
