Mindfulness and Expression: Workshops for Teens

We recently hosted an art show in Somerville displaying work created by kids we serve through our “Mindfulness & Expression: Workshops for Teens.” This group is led by Erika Frazier, Clinician for The Guidance Center Family Clinic, and Alicia Chatterjee, Family Support Worker at The Guidance Center and was created back in March through funds from The Guidance Center Board of Advisors Innovation Grant. Teenage girls in the group were able to work on self-care, identity development, and healing through mindfulness, yoga, and expressive art over the course of 12 weeks. This therapeutic, culturally-conscious, and trauma informed group supported the young women’s mental health.

The art show was the conclusion of the group and was attended by – families, friends, and staff of Riverside and The Guidance Center. The show gave the teens an opportunity to celebrate and share their art, as well as develop their youth leadership and community organizing skills in the coordination and curation of their own art event. We’re so proud of all of the work done in this group and the accomplishments of these young women!
