Maia’s Story: Riverside Life Skills Center

This is one of our most moving videos, yet.  Maia is a teen who had depression and was suicidal.  Her parents didn’t know where to turn.  She enrolled in Riverside’s Life Skills Center and has made remarkable progress.  Maia and her family generously decided to tell their story to explain the program and show other families that help is available.

Riverside Life Skills Centers in Needham and Milford help teens who have significant mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. These kids aren’t able to attend traditional school, and spend their time at Riverside in a highly-structured environment with therapeutic groups and activities.  At Life Skills, the teens learn more about their mental health issues, gain understanding of their behavior, and acquire healthy coping skills.

Throughout the program, they also work on increasing their self-esteem and social skills, with the goal of successfully integrating back into their school and community.  As you’ll hear from Rebecca and Dave, Maia’s parents, throughout the process we work very closely with the family so that everyone shares the same goals and has support.

Not only has this important program dramatically improved the lives of struggling teens, it has also saved them … as you’ll hear from Maia’s parents in this video.
