4 5 We believe quality care should be available to all who need it. Mary Wanted to Run Away In her 20s, she was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and she feared that she faced a lifetime of dependence, confusion, and the loss of her friends. At the same time, physical stress to her knees meant an end to her dream of a career as a professional dancer. For years, Mary bounced back-and-forth between group homes and hospitalizations. Finding Community Then, in her mid-30s, Mary found Elliot House, one of Riverside’s four Clubhouses, which offer a supportive, stigma-free environment and help members regain job skills, find employment, reduce hospitalizations, and develop meaningful relationships. With support from Elliot, Mary now works at Marshalls, lives and commutes on her own, and is deeply involved in the Clubhouse community. Services like our Clubhouses are one of the many programs Riverside offers to adults with mental health needs. “I’m more independent, happier, and a lot healthier.” – Mary, Elliot House member
