Lilo was a psychiatrist and pediatrician who came to The Guidance Center in the 1950’s, where she worked as a child psychiatrist. Lilo generously included The Guidance Center, a service of Riverside Community Care, in her will. In fiscal year 2016 we received an unexpected and substantial gift from her estate. Gifts like this one provide us with a unique opportunity to respond to unmet needs by developing pilot programs, expanding our services, and providing professional training to our staff. Born in Germany, Lilo immigrated to America with her parents, arriving in NewYork in 1940. She graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1943 and from the Long Island College of Medicine in 1947. She was one of only two women who graduated from medical school in a class of over 120 men. She practiced pediatrics in Buffalo, NewYork for many years before coming to The Guidance Center. Lilo trained as a clinical instructor at the Floating Hospital for Children in Boston, now known as the Tufts New England Medical Center. When she was in her eighties, she returned as a faculty instructor, teaching medical students the art of interviewing patients. Lilo has left a lasting contribution to the children and families we serve, for which we are deeply grateful.
