Riverside School Successes

It’s always great to look at data that demonstrates that one of our innovative programs is doing exactly what it set out to do! The Riverside School in Needham, which opened 5 years ago, meets the needs of students with significant mental health issues.  These are kids that require a small, specialized, supportive educational environment with clinical staff who understand them and can help them manage their symptoms and learn new ways to cope.  The public schools simply cannot serve these kids and keeping them out of school with a tutor is not enough.

So, we opened this school to help kids remain at home, in their own community and to avoid losing ground in school.  We are helping them avoid residential placement or being hospitalized.  We also help them return to their own school, if possible.

We are pleased to report that 67% of our students return to a public school program, 19% move on to a less intensive 766 Approved school program, and 12% graduate directly from our Riverside School.  The school is meeting its mission – providing students with a therapeutic environment that supports academic achievement and personal growth, with close collaboration with their families.
