Helpful Resources for the Aftermath of the Attacks in Paris

Our hearts and thoughts are with Paris and all of France during this unimaginable time. Even thousands of miles away, people in the U.S. might find themselves distressed by the events there. Reactions to traumatic events vary widely, but can include physical symptoms, extreme fear, shock, and helplessness. We offer many online resources that you may find helpful. Resources for parents can be found at www.nctsn.org. Immediate crisis counseling for people who are experiencing emotional distress related to a natural or human-caused disaster can call the Disaster Distress Helpline 1-800-985-5990 (nationwide); available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

And remember, if you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by the media coverage, take a break from watching and reading the news. While it is always important to take care of yourself, this becomes even more essential during times of high stress. Remember to connect with friends and loved ones, get some exercise, and engage in activities that bring you peace and joy.
