Our outpatient centers offer individual, group and family counseling, treatment planning and consultation, medication management, substance abuse treatment, and linkages with a network of services. Staff are expert at working with a broad range of individual and interpersonal difficulties, as well as more serious psychiatric issues. Outreach and community rehabilitation support services are available through Department of Mental Health funding. We accept a full array of public and private health insurance.

Day Treatment
Acute and rehabilitative group treatment services are offered utilizing an outcome-oriented focus to support a stable return to community living. Dual diagnosis group treatment is available within the programs. The programs' individualized treatment planning and group/milieu treatment may be coordinated with other services such as clubhouses, vocational and outpatient counseling.

Crisis Stabilization/Respite
The crisis stabilization/respite programs provide an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization providing support, treatment, structured activities and rapid access to crisis/emergency services. Length of stay ranges from one day to four weeks.

Clubhouses
Clubhouses utilize the strength of extensive peer support and a rehabilitative environment to provide employment, social, and independent living experiences for individuals who have a history of mental illness. Clubhouse members and staff work together in all phases of clubhouse operations including business management and food service. The Clubhouses offer extensive employment placement services and on-the-job support.

Residential Services and Supported Housing
An extensive array of supported housing options and residential programs enable individuals with long-term mental illness to live independently and/or in home-like community settings. A transitional sober house, serving adults who are dually diagnosed with both mental illness and substance abuse, is also available. Ongoing residential supports include rehabilitation services, skill development, supportive counseling, crisis management and respite support. Staffing levels vary in intensity according to individual need.

Partial Hospitalization
The Partial Hospitalization Program is an intensive, short-term community-based treatment program for adults who are in actute distress and experiencing disabling psychiatric symptoms. The goals of treatment are to stabilize participants' acute symptoms, prevent inpatient psychological hospitalization and enable participants to more quickly return to a less intensive level of service.

Information and Consultation Services

The goal of Riverside Information and Consultation Services is to ensure that individuals with disabilities maintain the highest possible level of independence.  To this end, we assist caregivers, or other interested parties, in making the best care choices possible.  Our staff have the experience and skill to help to assess the types of services needed and suggest options available within the community.  If necessary, we can make referrals to service providers who offer support on an ongoing basis, such as care managers and attorneys.

Trauma Response Services

The Riverside Trauma Center helps local communities, schools, government agencies, healthcare and human services providers, and workplaces cope with the emotional aftermath of traumatic events such as natural disasters, accidents, suicides, or homicides. Riverside’s trauma-response professionals stand ready to provide “psychological first aid” to individuals and organizations affected after a tragedy. Riverside also helps organizations plan their response to unexpected and traumatic events that may occur in the future.

The Trauma Center’s services include:

  • Immediate assessment, consultation and support
  • Group and individual meetings with those directly involved, including employees, students and community members
  • Referral to community resources

Riverside has provided trauma-related services since 1990, achieving a well-earned national reputation for excellence, and, most importantly, developing a team of highly trained and experienced trauma-response professionals.  In the event of a crisis, first responders and authorized representatives can call Riverside 24-hours a day, seven days a week

Psychiatric Day Treatment
This Day Treatment program for children and adolescents with serious emotional problems focuses on crisis stabilization and enhancing successful psychosocial functioning at school, work, and home. The program closely coordinates treatment and discharge planning with families, schools, and treatment providers. Services may be integrated with Riverside's Home-Based Treatment Service, New Multi Crisis Stabilization Outreach Service, and other community resources.

Home-Based Treatment Services
A team of specialists offers short-term therapeutic treatment options for youth. Staff are mobile and work with a child and family for periods ranging from several weeks to up to six months, providing screening and assessment, supportive counseling, intensive case management, outreach and education, respite supports and activities, and longer term support. Services may be coordinated with outpatient treatment, Riverside’s Life Skills Center, crisis stabilization services, emergency services, and other community resources.

Outreach, Stabilization and Emergency Residential Support
Riverside Alternative Youth Services serves teens and their families in the communities of Newton, Weston and Needham who are facing crises with alcohol and drug abuse, escalating family conflict, eating disorders or serious emotional problems. A team of skilled clinicians respond immediately, helping the teen and family manage the immediate crisis. Staff provide short-term treatment and support, and access additional resources to maintain youth in their homes and communities.

Early Intervention Services
Early Intervention offers therapeutic, educational and family support services for delayed, disabled, or at-risk infants and toddlers from birth to age three. Services include screening and assessment, home visits, groups and individual center based therapies, toddler groups, parent education, and support groups.

Staff utilize respite services and behavioral intervention, as well as training and crisis intervention for staff, family members, and individuals with developmental disabilities living at home or in residential settings.
