Riverside Community Care Announces Opening of Riverside School – Milford

Milford, MA, May, 2017. — Riverside Community Care has opened the Riverside School – Milford, serving Milford and the surrounding communities. The Riverside School – Milford is an innovative program that meets the needs of students with significant emotional disturbances and/or a psychiatric diagnosis. These students require a small, specialized, and supportive educational environment with clinical staff support. Clinicians work with the students to understand their needs, help them manage their symptoms, and learn new ways to cope. The goal of the program is to help kids remain at home, in their own communities, and avoid losing ground in school. Additionally, the program helps students avoid residential placement or hospitalization.

“The Riverside School is an amazing program that allows students to regain real life skills in order to navigate academic demands, family stressors, and their wider community,” says Doreen Shea, Education Administrator for the Riverside School – Milford. “Students learn skills to increase their self-esteem, manage emotional difficulties, and set goals for the future.”

Riverside Community Care opened their first Riverside School in Needham, MA five years ago. The results have been incredibly successful. The Riverside School program has a proven track record of successfully helping students navigate a particularly challenging phase of their life with the goal of returning them to a more traditional school setting. In the past five years students participated in the Riverside School program for an average of 13 months and 86% of students successfully moved on or graduated directly from the program. 42% of these students returned to a mainstream school. The Riverside Schools serve students from grades six through twelve and offer a high staff to student ratio in a small group setting. Riverside is excited to bring this impactful program to Milford and the surrounding communities.
