What is #GivingTuesday?

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season.

Sasha’s journey through mental illness, from poverty to work:

Sasha was devastated by the sudden death of her husband. She had already been dealing with many life issues and struggled severely with depression and other mental health challenges. She also had physical ailments including a vision deficit and all of this kept her out of the workforce for 1.5 years. Her severe depression due to the issues she faced catapulted her to the poverty level. As a single parent, she had to rely on many public benefits and was unable to care for her twin baby boys or herself. With the assistance of the Regional Employment Collaboratives she was able to overcome many hardships. This process gave her the opportunity to plan her journey back to work to secure a brighter future. Sasha attended workshops put on by the Regional  Employment Collaboratives. She was able to learn new skills on how to find a job, get motivated and get back to work. She was successful! Sasha’s twins are now 6 and she is employed and off of welfare. She is an Executive Assistant for a transportation company and was recently promoted.

 

The Riverside Regional Employment Collaboratives were created to provide individuals with disabilities better access to employment. Over the past ten years, the  Collaboratives have helped thousands of individuals with mental illness, vision impairment, developmental disabilities, medical and physical challenges find rewarding employment and develop career readiness. We are changing lives one at a time! In the last 18+ months, we have had approximately 1500 individuals with disabilities hired by the Employers we work with through the Collaboratives. Please support our mission!
